Poetry, St. Kilda Beach

St. Kilda Beach

diffuse sunlight produces little heat
the sky isn’t quite — navy
rich blue against storefront awnings

I sit at sidewalk cafe
shiver briefly in temperate maritime
winds gust down narrow avenues
carry eucalyptus and salt
beer glasses glint from pm
sunlight; cast dancing specks

whose eyes are those
nestled behind polarized lenses
crowds mill along acland
and I watch from benches
